In 2017, Tyson Major’s life changed forever. At 30 years old, after weeks of feeling unwell and not recognising the symptoms, Tyson was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes (T1). The news hit hard. His mental health suffered, his marriage nearly ended, and he faced the unimaginable challenge of reshaping his life.

But Tyson didn’t let T1 define him. Instead, he transformed his diagnosis into a powerful force for good. Today, Tyson is not only a Medtronic ambassador but also a passionate supporter of The Type 1 Foundation, dedicating his energy to raising awareness and inspiring others living with T1.

One of Tyson’s greatest achievements has been his involvement with the Kokoda Track treks in Papua New Guinea, where he combines adventure with advocacy.
- 2023: Tyson completed his first Kokoda Trek, raising over $25,000 for The Type 1 Foundation.
- 2024: Returning stronger than ever, he completed his second trek, helping to raise nearly $100,000.
-
2025: Joined by his 14-year-old son, Ollie, Tyson completed his third trek, raising close to $25,000 and inspiring a new generation of advocates.
Beyond fundraising, Tyson now serves as a Kokoda Trek leader for The Type 1 Foundation. He looks forward to guiding more trekkers in 2026, helping them experience the transformative power of the journey while raising awareness for Type 1 Diabetes.

“Living with T1 can be pretty rough sometimes,” Tyson says. “But you just have to push through and not let it rule your life.”
Tyson’s story is a powerful reminder that a diabetes diagnosis doesn’t have to limit your life; it can open doors to strength, community, and purpose. Through his treks, advocacy, and daily perseverance, Tyson is showing the world that with determination and support, living well with Type 1 is entirely possible.
